The Special Assistance Fund (SAF) provides financial assistance to low-income families in purchasing assistive equipment to aid persons with disabilities in their mobility or rehabilitation.
The fund provides individuals with up to $10,000 in financial assistance in the individual’s lifetime for purchasing equipment or home retrofits (excluding installation costs). The funding cap may be adjusted based on the applicant's need, as justified by the social worker and/or the therapist from the VWO or hospital.
Examples of assistive equipment are walking aids, wheelchairs, special mattresses (to prevent bed sores), commodes, and other assistive devices for daily living.
