The Traffic Accident Fund (TAF) provides financial assistance to persons who have acquired permanent or temporary disabilities due to traffic accidents.
This fund provides individuals with financial assistance of up to $10,000 within seven years to purchase assistive equipment for daily living; retrofit homes to enhance accessibility, mobility and rehabilitation; or reimburse taxi and ambulance fees for transport between the home and rehabilitation centre.
Transport reimbursement will be valid only during the duration of rehabilitation as qualified by a voluntary welfare organisation (VWO) or a medical social work department in the hospital. In principle approval must be sought from the Centre for Enabled Living (CEL) through the VWO or medical social worker. Applications must be received within two months of starting outpatient rehabilitation. Reimbursement will be on a monthly basis upon receipt of supporting receipts.
Families of accident victims who have passed on or are suffering from brain damage due to the accident are also eligible for this fund. They may apply for temporary cash relief of up to $3,000 to cover daily expenses while awaiting claims from insurance companies or help from other public assistance schemes. Applications must be received within 1 month of death / brain damage. Disbursement will take about 15 working days upon submission of the complete documentation.
