Vocational Training

If a child is more inclined to develop vocational skills after completing his/her primary education, he/she may apply to join a vocational training institute instead of attending a mainstream secondary school.

At the training institutes, the child can pick up crucial livelihood skills that could help secure employment upon completion.

There are different vocations, including infocomm technologies, which a special needs child can learn from various centres in Singapore. More details are available at the following:

The Down Syndrome Association has an Adult Enhancement Program targeted at persons with intellectual disabilities who have graduated from (special) schools at 18 years old.

The Infocomm Accessibility Centre (IA Centre) provides subsidised IT training to people with disabilities. Adopting a many helping hands approach, the IA Centre is realised through a people-public-private collaboration.  The supporting organisations include the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), National Council of Social Service (NCSS), Singapore Tote Board and industry partner, Microsoft Singapore. The Centre is managed by the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD).
