Hostels provide an alternative housing arrangements for adults with disabilities who do not require institutional care, but for reasons unknown are unable to stay with their families.
Hostels also provide short-term residential-based training on work and life skills to enable these individuals to resume independent living back at their own homes or in alternative forms of assisted community living.
The Centre for Enabled Living is the referring agency for hostels.
Who
Individuals who are Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents aged 18 to 55, and diagnosed with any of the following disabilities:
- Developmental
- Intellectual
- Sensory
- Physical
- A combination of two or more of the above
The above mentioned disabilities should be congenital, although persons with acquired disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
These individuals should also ideally be employed. Those who are unemployed will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
How
Applications for hostel placement should preferably be submitted by a professional (e.g. doctor, social worker, therapist, etc) to the Centre for Enabled Living. Besides the
referral form, the individual's medical report, social report and psychological report are also required as supporting documents.
