As people grow old, their physical and mental abilities tend to deteriorate, and they often begin to develop impairments such as Alzheimer’s disease and failing eyesight.
Currently, an estimated 30,000 elderly Singaporeans above 60 years old (7% of the elderly population) have difficulties with at least one of Activity of Daily Living (ADL) and are in need of caregiving support.
Considering that this number is estimated to reach 65,000 by the year 2020, more is needed in coordinating eldercare services and plugging service gaps, to enable Singapore's seniors to receive the appropriate types and levels of care required.
