Sheltered/community homes provide residence to ambulant elderly who are without next-of-kin or are unable to live with their family members. These homes also provide some support services (along with social, recreational and keep-fit activities) to assist and enable seniors to maintain their independence within the community.
Sheltered/community homes for the aged are often known as old folks' homes in the local context.
